Well, here I go!

It’s official.

With two 50-pound suitcases and two carry-ons in tow, I will officially be on my way to Ghana in the morning!

It is a night of lasts for me… my last sleep in a big bed, my last American home-cooked meal, and my last hot shower… But no words can even begin to describe how excited I am for my new experience. A plethora of novel sights, sounds, tastes, smells await me across the Atlantic Ocean in the humble city of Accra, Ghana (not located in Egypt, contrary to popular belief). Approximately 22 hours of flying and 7456.7 miles are the only things lying between me and my new home for the next seven weeks.

Three things I am scared for:

1. 3-inch long spiders.

2. Powdered milk.

3. The infamous “tro-tro” (Ghanaian’s favored mode of public transportation. Also known as a hot, crowded mini-van and as to the location of the stops, your guess is as good as mine.)

Three things I am excited for:

1. Getting to know the local wildlife (other than the 3-inch long spiders).

2. Learning about media in Ghana through a class at the university and through my internship.

3. Living out my dream and the once in a life time opportunity to learn about, explore, and experience an entirely new and different culture.

And with that, I bid you all farewell!

Medaase!
