When I showed up to my second day of work, I sat down at a desk and pulled out my laptop, not expecting anything to do. My first day was slow. I mostly just sat, met my coworkers, read past issues of the newspaper, and worried about the trotro I had to take home. I wasn’t expecting anything different for today. But early in the morning, before everyone had even arrived at the office, one of my coworkers walked in and said, “You’re going on assignment.” My heart jumped at the thought of escaping the dimly lit office into the bright Ghanaian streets. I snatched up a press invitation to cover a report by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development and ran out the door.
