Coming into this program, I really didn’t know what to expect. I didn’t know what the country would be like. I knew it was going to be hot though. I had no clue what any of it would look like, smell like, feel like. I didn’t expect the landscape to be so green or for the people to be so nice. All of it came as somewhat of a surprise. Everything about it fascinated me. The way the people lived their day-to-day lives, the tro tro rides, the extreme amount of cabs. Everything about Ghana has been different, some things even a little weird. I was out at a restaurant and this guy came to me and asked me was I from the states and how my experience in Ghana compares to my experiences in America. I tried my best to explain the differences, but the list could go on. He then told me that things in Ghana aren’t like most other places but everything here is normal. In him saying that made me realize a lot of things we complain about really don’t matter that much. The entire program was an eye opening and humbling experience.
