What we’re all here for, our internships! Personally, I was a little nervous to start on this new adventure all alone and on a different continent, but I was also ready at the same time. My week has been an interesting one, to say the least. I didn’t know what to expect at the internship but learning about a corporate gas company has been interesting. The magnitude of the people Xpress Gas serves across Ghana is astonishing, through 7 departments and 2 locations, Xpress Gas contains complex day-to-day operations, doing so in the name of serving greater Ghana. While Xpress is fascinating, I struggle to realize my position here as a creative in such an industrial setting, often given tasks that range outside of what I specialize in. The tasks I’ve been asked to complete so far have been ones such as entering receipts into their booking system in Excel with the finance department mainly, accounting work. I have also been doing administrative assistant work such as making tables of the company’s potential new hires, many students who are graduating from local colleges and are eager to enter the workforce and see Xpress gas as a great opportunity; lastly I was tasked with matching lists of names on an excel spreadsheet, getting rid of all excess names. While the people are nice and I’ve learned a lot, I hope to be able to create something that benefits my creativity and portfolio, this will make my time and experience here in Accra more enjoyable.
