The second week at Emerge has almost come to an end and its taught me a lot so far. Each day Aviva and I take an Uber at around 7:45 to work which is around 15 cedis, or three US dollars. We arrive at 8:30 and start our day. In all honesty my work days usually take me about an hour (maybe two) to warm up. We are usually the first ones in the office along with Nana, the PR person for Emerge.
Our boss, Michelle, is an actress along with many other things, and has been shooting since the end of last week. We have a group Whatsapp chat in which she’ll give each person a list of what she wants done. The main thing I’ve been working on is storyboards, which is basically a concept and layout for a video advertisement. The more I seem to understand what Michelle is looking for, the more I think she trusts me with more accounts. I like to be busy, but also doing the same thing can be a bit repetitive. Although, this is exactly what I wanted coming into this internship, clarity. I don’t have a clear path with what I want to do as a career, I’d much rather be told that I would be perfect for something and go with that. I think what I’m coming to find is as much as I love coming up with concepts and ideas for videos, I would love even more to see them put into action. Michelle encourages me that I will be able to see the production the documentary for the chamber of commerce account, but with only a little under four weeks’ left I’m doubtful.
Time is not stressed here whatsoever. If someone is on their way expect at least 30 more minutes, maybe an hour more. This is definitely teaching me patience, something I’ve wanted to work on for a while now. On top of all that, this week I took the trotro home by myself and tried the food that all my coworkers have each day (minus the cow-back). I’m either pushing my luck or having more and more trust in my new home, probably both.
