Unforgettable Africa Cup Game at Net-2 TV, by Kisa Clark

A small group from the cohort and I went to the neighborhood known as Madina to watch the Ghana Black Stars take on Guinea-Bissau during the Africa Cup on July 3. The broadcast station Net-2 TV had set up a large outdoor screen for their live broadcast of the football match which was played in Read More …

Grocery Shopping in Accra!

Today, after touring the city of Accra and the University of Ghana campus, we all went to AMC mall for grocery shopping. It is just so interesting to see our students looking around and trying to find groceries for themselves. It feels like we are settling down here:-) More adventures are coming, Go Ducks!!!

A Long-Awaited Trip to Ghana, by Kisa Clark

I visited the University of Oregon as an incoming Media Studies doctoral student in May 2018. After visiting with a few folks in the department, I was advised to introduce myself to Dr. Leslie Steeves as we both shared a passion for travel and study abroad. Shortly after arriving at her office, I found myself Read More …

Let’s Go! By Desmond Johnson

The day is finally upon us! I leave for Ghana tomorrow, but the hustle of the last month has left me with little time to anticipate my trip. Between graduating, moving out of Eugene, and getting everything prepared to go to Ghana, I’ve been so busy that my day of departure really snuck up on Read More …

Today is the Day, by Madeline Robinson

Today is the day. If I am being honest, I never really thought that it would come. I applied for this program in the exact same spot that I am writing this post: on a stool in the kitchen of my childhood home. Back in January, this felt like a pipe dream. “Ghana? I don’t Read More …

The Africa They Think They See, by Georgina Fernandez

I originally chose a study abroad and internship in Africa because I wanted something that would push me, not only as a student but as a journalist. I thought Africa would bring a new thrill to my life. However, throughout the last few weeks, I quickly learned that my thoughts of Africa may have been Read More …

Surreal, by David Martinez

After adding an advertising major at the end of my sophomore year, I kept hearing reference to a study abroad program in Ghana. I heard rumors that it could land you a job right out of college, or help you discover your path in the School of Journalism. Regardless if Read More …

Preparations, by Francis O’Leary

I have my travel visa. I’ve been inoculated against typhoid and yellow fever and have a bottle full of malaria pills. My wardrobe has been appropriately stocked with slacks and colored shirts. I can introduce myself in Twi. On one hand, I feel ready to commence my summer internship with the Media in Ghana program. Read More …

Preparing for Takeoff, by Jordan Dunn

Ever since the start of spring term, I’ve been itching to get to June 28th. Over the course of the term and the pre-departure orientation course, I’ve become more and more intrigued by the culture of Ghana, its people, and its food. I can’t wait to get over there and begin to experience everything Read More …

See you in Ghana!

It is a tradition that Professor Leslie Steeves, the director of Media in Ghana program, hosting a pre-departure party at her house, at where the entire group and several Ghanaians would get together to share some final thoughts about the trip and Ghanaian culture.

Getting Excited for Departure, by Madilyne (Hi’ilani) Nguyen-Acosta

Ever since my group (David and Sophia and I) did a presentation on the many cultures in Ghana, I have been hooked on my contribution to that presentation on Ghanaian music. Thinking before Leaving, by Carlos McCarter

I honestly can’t believe we depart for Ghana in a little under a month. It’s slowly beginning to sink in as I start tying up loose ends. It feels surreal because you hear how this trip has been transformative for so many people who have gone, and it makes you sit back in your Read More …
