Volta Region is the gem of Ghana. It was our last trip while in the country. Last but not least. It was an amazing experience since I felt we were close to nature. A rural Museum, waterfall, mountains, river, beach… Volta region offered us an entire experience of the country. It was a beautiful way to say “medaase, Ghana” for such an amazing experience. Ghana is a simple country with vibrant colors and happiness, making you feel it is impossible to leave it.

During our trip to the Volta Region, our first stop was the Nkyinkyim Museum. The place vibrates African heritage, celebrating not only the powerful Ghanaian and African culture but also making us think about why Africa is a continent that is not seen fully as a possibility by the world. The sculptures of Ghanaian artists speak through their art, denunciating the oppression lived by the continent during the slavery and colonialist period and still have effects on the continent as a blurry for the African image not to be considered a final destination.

Besides the Nkyinkyim Museum, we went to Wli Waterfalls, the highest waterfall in West Africa with Dolf, our tour guide, with whom I had a long conversation coming back from the waterfall about similarities between Brazilian and Ghanaian cultures. It was a nice surprise since I made a friend who still keeps in touch. Still in the Volta Region, we also contemplated the Volta River, which has an odd and powerful sunset, and the Monkey Sanctuary, a place to appreciate the freedom of monkeys and their families in nature, where they belong. Medaase for this amazing experience, Volta Region!
